Long Beach residents have been chosen to receive five $1,000 scholarships to a coding boot camp in efforts to nurture the local technology industry.

The scholarships are funded by an anonymous donor and will give the residents a heavily discounted tuition to WP Code Camp, an online boot camp based in Southern California.

“We think Long Beach has the potential to be the next Silicon Beach,” said Peter Surowski, the curriculum director of WP Code Camp. “There is so much untapped talent here, but technical training is so expensive; it’s out of reach for a lot of people who want to enter the industry”

Coding boot camps are trade schools that teach people to become web developers in a compressed time frame–often in 3-6 months. The programs are intensive, and students emerge ready for an entry level position in the web development industry.

Long Beach was chosen by the donor wishes to remain anonymous. Anyone who lives in the city, 18 or over, is eligible to apply. WP Code Camp was chosen because it is already the most affordable coding boot camp in Southern California. If paid in advance, the 24 week course costs only $4,800, less than half the average cost of similar boot camps in the region. The grant brings the out of pocket cost to be $3,800 with financing available. Applicants who show great enthusiasm and grit for tech will be favored in the application process.

NOTE: If you are looking for coding programs for students younger than 18, check out Kids That Code in Riverside, CA. They offer coding classes specially designed for school aged children.

WP Code Camp was founded with the primary goal of making web development education more accessible and affordable. Similar boot camps and trade schools typically cost $10,000-$12,000, almost triple the cost of WP Code Camp.

The program includes technology such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, Node, React, and WordPress. It emphasizes hands-on skills, which sets it apart from traditional computer science courses who focus on theoretical situations. The coding bootcamp is broken up into 6 different modules, each 4 weeks long and emphasizing a different element of web development. The Importance of Affordability in Computer Science Education

In today’s world, technology is an essential part of every aspect of life. From communication to commerce, every industry relies heavily on computers and technology. As such, there is a high demand for skilled workers in the field of computer science. Trade schools offering computer science programs can play a crucial role in meeting this demand by providing affordable and accessible training for students.

One of the most significant benefits of trade schools offering computer science programs is affordability. Traditional four-year colleges and universities can be expensive, and many students cannot afford the high tuition fees. Trade schools, on the other hand, offer more affordable options for students who want to pursue careers in computer science. Trade schools typically have lower tuition fees than universities, and they also offer financial aid and scholarships to students who need assistance.

Additionally, trade schools offering computer science programs can provide accessible training for students. Many trade schools have flexible scheduling options, including night classes and online courses, making it easier for students to work while they study. This flexibility is especially beneficial for students who need to balance work and family obligations while pursuing their education.

Another benefit of trade schools offering computer science programs is that they often provide hands-on training that focuses on practical skills. Trade schools are designed to prepare students for specific careers, and they often have close relationships with local employers in the computer science industry. As a result, trade schools can provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their chosen careers.

Moreover, trade schools often offer smaller class sizes than traditional universities, providing students with a more personalized education. In smaller class sizes, students have more opportunities to ask questions and receive individual attention from instructors, enhancing their learning experience.

The demand for computer science professionals is expected to continue to grow in the coming years. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 11 percent from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations. This growth is expected to result in the creation of nearly 550,000 new jobs in the field.

Trade schools offering computer science programs can help meet this demand by producing skilled professionals who are ready to enter the workforce. By providing affordable and accessible training, trade schools can help students achieve their career goals and improve their earning potential.

In conclusion, trade schools offering computer science programs are essential in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape. They provide affordable and accessible training for students, practical hands-on experience, and personalized attention from instructors. By producing skilled professionals, trade schools can help meet the growing demand for computer science professionals and provide students with the tools they need to succeed in their chosen careers.
